"Curios" brings together new paintings by two exciting young artists from different corners of the globe - Galina Munroe and Cannon Dill.
Galina Munroe is a British-French artist who graduated with an MFA from the Central Saint Martins in London. Her practice extends within the parameters of a surreal and abstract world in which shifting shapes and forms illustrate the surface of her canvases. This latest body of work has been produced in the United Kingdom, upon returning from two years spent painting in relevant isolation in the Southern French countryside. Recurring botanical and culinary symbols from both sides of her dual-heritage (British & French) intermingle playfully, reading as diary entries of the young artist's life, and of finding joy in life's simple pleasures.
Cannon Dill is a painter living and working in Oakland, CA. He has had solo exhibitions at pt.2: Gallery in Oakland and participated in shows in San Francisco, NYC, and London.Dill breathes dynamism and movement into his naively conceived depictions of animals, figures and objects. The artist has described his style to his critiques and followers as "crunchy". Dill attributes the vitality of his work to his process of "the brush being dragged over the canvas” to evoke a “skipping effect" that creates the child-like aesthetic that Dill is now widely recognised and regarded for.
