PIERMARQ* is pleased to present We Don’t Need Another Hero, an exhibition of new work by Chilean artist, Humberto Poblete-Bustamante. This is Poblete-Bustamante’s first exhibition at PIERMARQ* in Sydney.
Poblete-Bustamante uses thick layers of oil paint to create abstract compositions. The vibrant colours and simplified forms merge to create a harmonious and textural geography on the canvas. While socio-political movement underpins the artist's creative process, the work is formalist in its layering of materials as an autobiographical archive of the experience of painting and the lightness of fluid movements in contrast with the density of the heavy, impasto application.
We Don’t Need Another Hero consists of 12 new works of oil on canvas. The exhibition earns its title from the idea that the compositional elements of the paintings – colour, form, texture – exist in harmony and are equally as important as one another. The title also pays homage to the late Tina Turner, whose journey of reconstructing a legacy served as insipiration for Poblete-Bustamante.
Humberto Poblete-Bustamante, b. 1966, lives and works in Paris, France. He has exhibited internationally and his work belongs to museums and public collections in France and Spain.
