PIERMARQ* is pleased to present: A Change of Sky, opening Thursday 6th February, 6-8pm
Celebrated for his distinctive style that blends faux-naïf depictions with textured, dynamic compositions, Dill work often revolves around a symbolic and poetic exploration of the natural world, with recurring motifs such as horses, bulls, flowers, and abstracted landscapes.
His paintings often possess a striking flatness, giving his work a tactile, almost collage-like aesthetic. With a sense of handcrafted imperfection, Dill’s use of texture and materiality recall modernist traditions, particularly Henri Matisse’s ‘cut-outs,’ where Dill’s lively compositions similarly emphasize the flatness of a picture plane and the abstract purity of color, line, and pattern. His use of flat planes and bold outlines amplify the symbolic weight of his iconography, as they converge to tell compelling visual stories.
Cannon Dill (USA, b. 1991) lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Dill has been involved in group exhibitions at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Museum of Modern Art.
