PIERMARQ* is excited to introduce Henrik Godsk and Olivier Vrancken to an Australian audience. With works hanging alongside Australian rising star Jordy Kerwick, this exhibition celebrates an expanding network of artists who support and inspire each other from across the globe.
Danish artist Godsk, Belgian-born Netherlands-based artist Vrancken and Australian-born France-based Kerwick have long been following, critiquing and inspiring each other in the digital realm. From Europe, With Love brings their art together physically for the first time.
In the same way that the Industrial Revolution gave us the Arts and Crafts movement, this golden age of social media image-sharing is so over-saturated with content that it is bringing many artists back to a more traditional approach to painting. Not reinventing the wheel is the new reinventing the wheel!
On Instagram, the documentation of studio practices and 'works in progress' encourages artists to participate in a more community-driven type of art-making that is more about making paintings of substance (with injections of contemporary humour) than vying to be the shiniest thing in the room. It's as though each artist is sharing their studio with thousands of like-minded artists from all over the world who each have their own unique perspective and contribution to a continuously evolving discourse.
We're thrilled to welcome Olivier Vrancken and Henrik Godsk into the PIERMARQ* fold, and to have the work of Jordy Kerwick return to our walls!
