PIERMARQ* Projects is pleased to present Solar Codex, by Australian artist, Adam Spark. This is Spark’s second exhibition at PIERMARQ* Projects in Sydney.
Adam Spark's work explores memory, nostalgia, fears and hopes in imaginary scenes that exist somewhere between the adult mind and a place of childlike wonder. With bold contrasts and familiar iconography, he invites viewers to view daily experiences through more innocent eyes.
The new body of work began with Spark's lifelong fascination with cults, and their inevitable collapse. Despite derogatory connotations, the artist examines the origins of cults that came into existence from a wholesome, shared sense of beliefs and goals. For this exhibition, Spark creates an imaginary cult, that he describes as “group of people coming together in the spirit of sunlight and positivity and for once it doesn’t fall apart.” Each work depicts a day in the life of an isolated, enigmatic community going about mundane tasks; Spark calls this community Solar Codex.
