PIERMARQ* Projects is pleased to present Super-Chrome Deluxe, an exhibition by Australian artist, Jamie Preisz.
In Super-Chrome Deluxe, Preisz examines the significance and insignificance of the objects accumulated throughout a life. Created amidst the backdrop of a major transition, the new body of work encapsulates the poignant process of packing up one's belongings to start again in a new country.
We all have our personal artifacts—the birthday cards that gather dust in drawers, trinkets tucked away in boxes, and the inevitable clutter that follows us from place to place. Preisz's paintings delve into the sentimental and the senseless, capturing the curious assortment of items collected over a decade of artistic exploration. The artist asks: What do the objects we keep reveal about us? How do we transform everyday items into personal relics, investing them with meaning and emotion? At what point do these treasured possessions become trash?
Preisz navigates these questions with humor and a touch of satire, playfully critiquing his own magpie-like tendencies, and acknowledging the duality of attachment and detachment. Beneath the lightheartedness lies a deeper homage to the city, artists, friends, and experiences that have shaped his artistic journey in a vivid exploration of the intersection between sentiment and sensibility, capturing the essence of life in transition.
